Client Success Story- Technology Department Turnaround (cont'd)
Approach After getting on the ground and quickly assessing the problem spots and possible solution options, we worked with senior leadership on a two-pronged management approach to address both vendor delivery quality and cost. We identified key roles that needed to be filled in order to eliminate organizational deficits, and we developed and implemented a light-weight product development methodology to drive vendor delivery and assure quality. Within 6 months, the business had hired a highly-qualified CTO, defined new organizational roles, and made major management and staff improvements.
|
Results As a result of the turnaround effort, the company realized these important gains:
- Improved vendor performance
- Significant development cost reduction
- Dramatically improved customer service and support

Another Client Success Story- Organizational Capacity Expansion
A community-based public service research organization, having built a reputation for high-quality service delivery, was challenged to meet rapidly increasing demand for their services. The leadership team understood that they needed to expand their capacity and were looking to evolve the organization in a way that would not destabilize the team, jeopardize their work, or negatively impact their clients.
|
Approach We started with their strategic plan, prioritizing certain plan elements for early action and then analyzing the capacity of the organization to deliver on those elements. We engaged the executive director and her senior staff in a series of workshops and systematically reviewed mission, roles, staff capacity and communications in order to pinpoint barriers and enablers to their strategic goals. From these workshops emerged a clear set of action steps involving staff, processes and policies aimed at bringing the culture (from start-up mode) to a more mature operating model. In parallel with the team workshops, we worked individually with senior staff to align their personal goals, job responsibilities, and leadership skills with the strategic objectives of the organization.
|
Results As a result of this effort, the organization is moving to a new level of performance through a reorganization and introduction of a new leadership position and a transformation from a project orientation to a functional orientation. The organization is better aligned to deliver on their mission as:
- Project delivery has been streamlined and made more efficient
- Communications have improved and all staff members are enrolled in working to build the organization
